Ingmar Bergman's chamber drama is a character study dealing with the universal themes of faith, family, and reality. Bergman's movie won the 1962 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Ingmar Bergman's Academy Award-winning film delves into the relationships and spiritual issues of four family members. Recently adapted by Jenny Worton, the stage version features the same intense intimacy that made the film such a powerful picture of a young woman's descent into insanity. While her emotionally detached father looks on and her doctor husband suffers from his inability to halt the progression of her mental illness, Karin finds herself struggling to keep a grip on her sanity. Set in a 24-hour time period, the play shows how their lives are turned upside down before they are offered a glimmer of hope.
